    Common questions about sports medicine:

  • Our primary care sports medicine physicians are specialty trained to treat the total care of athletes and weekend warriors. Our doctors completed their residencies in family medicine and received additional training in sports medicine through the completion of a 1-2 year fellowship. While not orthopedic surgeons, our sports medicine physicians trained alongside orthopedic surgeons during their fellowships. They also continue to work closely with Centura Health orthopedic surgeons in treating patients, referring out when necessary.
While surgery is a great option to treat pain and injury when necessary, approximately 90 percent of all sports injuries do not require surgery.  Our sports medicine physicians specialize in noninvasive treatment methods and can help you get back to your activities without the time, money and recovery required from surgery.

Our primary care sports medicine doctors perform a variety of noninvasive and holistic treatment options to treat injury. Noninvasive treatments provided by our physicians include:

    • cortisone injections for joint pain
    • osteopathic manipulation
    • acupuncture
    • bracing and casting
    • Kinisio taping
    • Physical therapy
    • X-ray
    • musculoskeletal ultrasound
    • Exercise prescriptions
Our doctors see all types of patients and injuries. From weekend warriors, to athletes of all ages and abilities, to those who are not physically active but have pain or orthopedic issues, our doctors provide noninvasive treatment. Our sports medicine physicians are very active in the community and do work as team physicians for local, regional and collegiate sports teams including Regis University, Metro State University, School of Mines, Colfax Marathon, Westminster Public Schools, Jeffco Public Schools, Evergreen and Conifer High Schools and more.
A referral is not required to see a primary care sports medicine physician. In the case that a referral is necessary to an orthopedic surgeon, your insurance may require a referral. Our team can help you determine the best plan for you.

Nearly all of our 27 locations offer sports medicine services. Our fellowship-trained sports medicine physicians are located in locations in Evergreen, Arvada and Westminster. Call today to schedule your appointment.
